Bachelor of Science in Ecology and Conservation Biology

Globally, the loss of biodiversity is reaching crisis levels. Ecology and conservation biology is the study of the interactions among plants, animals, other organisms and their environments. It aims to find ways to reduce loss of biodiversity and limit – and ideally reverse – damage to ecosystems.

Ecology and conservation biology is an interdisciplinary field. It includes the study of the distribution and abundance of animals, plants and other forms of life; key processes, such as how the dispersal of organisms may lead to new populations; and how organisms adapt to new environments, such as changing climates or new diseases. By understanding how ecological systems work, ecologists and conservation biologists can improve our management of natural resources such as water and forests.

People who study ecology and conservation biology may work in management roles for non-government organisations such as Landcare Australia; for environmental consultancies; in research for universities and organisations such as the Commonwealth Scientific Industrial and Research Organisation (CSIRO); developing conservation policy for government agencies such as the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA); science communication; or helping mining or engineering companies to limit their environmental footprint.

Entry Requirements:

STPM:
At least B in Biology, Chemistry and Physics/Mathematics.

UEC:
Minimum B4 in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and Advanced Mathematics.

A-levels:
Minimum B in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics/Mathematics

Matriculation in Science (by Ministry of Education Malaysia):
Pass with CGPA 3.00 in Biology, Chemistry, Physics / Mathematics with at least GPA 3.00 in Biology and Chemistry

Other qualifications will also be considered, however, it is subject to the approval by the Programme Director.
